The miraculous journey of microplastics

The miraculous journey of microplastics

How far is it from your sink to the sea? Probably shorter than you think! What sounds like vacation planning now is actually a serious problem.

Our daily activities at the sink send tiny plastic particles and toxic chemicals, such as PFAS, into the wastewater. Where do they come from? For example, from sponges, pan coatings, washing your fleece sweater by hand, household dust in your mopping water, water from your dryer, and even cleaning agents themselves. A mess! We think so, too.

With the GUPPYFRIEND sink filter, you can trap microplastic fibers and particles before they make their way into the drain.

How is it filtered?

How is it filtered?

You can use this handy filter throughout the house. In the kitchen and bathroom, your GUPPYFRIEND sink filter catches microplastics at the source. How does that work exactly? It’s simple: place the filter in the sink, catch the microplastics, and dispose of them. The filter fits most sinks. If it doesn't, it works just as well positioned at an angle in the sink. You can then easily dispose of the collected microplastics in the residual waste. Got it? Let’s go.

Also try our plastic-free GUPPYFRIEND detergent, the GUPPYFRIEND dishcloths made of cotton and linen, and other practical items such as the GUPPYFRIEND loofah sponges. For a clean home and less microplastic pollution.

Q&A

In your camper van, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, when cleaning your windows, or when washing your bike or car. The GUPPYFRIEND Sink Filter is our all-purpose filter for any situation.

If you still occasionally use a plastic sponge for washing dishes: GUPPYFRIEND Sink Filter. For microfiber cloths and the dust they collect: GUPPYFRIEND Sink Filter. For a quick hand wash of your yoga pants or fleece sweater: GUPPYFRIEND Sink Filter. For the water collected in your condenser dryer: GUPPYFRIEND Sink Filter. And so on and so forth.

It is best to brush it together with a soft brush and dispose of it in the residual waste. Please do not vacuum the GUPPYFRIEND sink filter or rinse it under running water. So, even if it is a bit more convenient to leave the filter out: make it your daily ritual! Microplastic belongs in the trash, not in the ocean!

That doesn't matter at all. Because it works just fine at an angle, too.

When used as intended, the durability of the sink filter is unlimited.

Please note that temperatures above 90 °C, acids, sharp edges, and high weight loads can destroy the filter surface. The filter should not be used for paints, oils, and solids.

Tests by the German Textile Research Centre demonstrate the effective performance of the sink filter in private households and offices. Click here for the test results.

A small proportion of house dust also consists of extremely small, so-called nano-particles. Even these can be partially retained by the GUPPYFRIEND sink filter, as some of the particles invisible to the human eye adhere to larger fibers and can be filtered out along with them.

Liquid and dissolved polymers, i.e., plastic in cleaning agents, cannot be retained. The solution: use cleaners without microplastics and without dissolved, liquid, or gel-like polymers.

For the GUPPYFRIEND sink filter, we use an untreated, silicone-free, extra-fine laboratory filter mesh made of polyester, which is characterized by high alkali resistance. As it is a monofilament, the filter mesh itself does not release any microplastics into the environment. The frame is made from 100% recycled material from the Dual System.
